Who Remembers the Titanic?

 Ή μήπως να πούμε ποιός δεν θυμάται τον Τιτανικό? Προ καιρού ενώ "σέρφαρα" στο διαδίκτυο ψάχνοντας ιδέες για μια ανάρτηση σχετικά με πανάκριβα κοσμήματα, έπεσα πάνω σε ένα σάιτ που λέγεται LIST TOP TENS. Εκεί βρήκα τη φωτογραφία του The Heart of the Ocean Diamond, ενός πολύ αναγνωρίσιμου κοσμήματος χάρην της ταινίας φυσικά. Δημιουργός του είναι ο  οίκος Asprey & Garrard ενώ το μεγάλο μπλε πετράδι είναι σαφίρι 171 καρατίων το οποίο περιστοιχίζεται από 103 διαμάντια. Θεωρείται ένα από τα ακριβότερα κοσμήματα που φορέθηκαν ποτέ στα Όσκαρ. Η αξία του υπολογίζεται στα 20 εκατομμύρια δολλάρια. Σύμφωνα με το συγκεκριμένο σάιτ τη βραδιά των Όσκαρ φορέθηκε από την Gloria Stuart την ηθοποιό που υποδύθηκε τη Ρόουζ σε μεγάλη ηλικία. Βέβαια στο wikipedia αναφέρει ότι η συμφωνία κατά την πώλησή του ήταν να φορεθεί από τη Celine Dion. Όχι ότι έχει καμιά σημασία. Δεν ξέρω τι σημασία έχει και για τον συλλέκτη που τελικά απέκτησε το κομμάτι σε δημοπρασία έναντι 17 εκατομμυρίων δολλαρίων! Εντάξει είναι μια επένδυση όμως καλύτερη επένδυση δεν θα ήταν με αυτά τα λεφτά να ταϊσουν και να ντύσουν μερικές χιλιάδες παιδάκια?

 Or should I say who doesn't remember the Titanic? Some time ago, while "surfing" the internet looking for ideas for a post on expensive jewelry, I came across a Site called LIST TOP TENS. There I found the photo of The Heart of the Ocean Diamond, a very recognizable jewelry due to the movie of course. Creator behind this masterpiece is Asprey & Garrard while the big blue gem is saphire 171 carats which is surrounded by 103 diamonds. It is considered to be one of the most expensive jewelry ever worn to the Oscars. Its value is estimated at 20 million dollars. According to this Site on Oscar night it was worn by Gloria Stuart, actress who portrayed Rose at old age. Of course wikipedia says that the agreement during the sale was for it to be worn by Celine Dion. Not that it has any importance. I don't even know what it matters to the collector who finally acquired the piece at auction for 17 million dollars! Okay it's an investment but wouldn't it be a better investment if he fed and dressed a few thousand children?

UPDATE: Τελικά μετά από έρευνα κατέληξα ότι το κόσμημα φορέθηκε στα Όσκαρ από τη Celine.

After further investigation, now I'm sure it was worn by Celine at the Oscars.
