Fashion Designer: Eleni Kyriacou at AXDW!

As promised on my last post, today I'm going to show you the SS16 collection of Greek Fashion Designer Eleni Kyriacou who opened the 18th Athens Xclusive Designers Week.

Before the pictures though I would like to focus on the impression Eleni left me as a person. Two words: warm and welcoming. All my anxiety vanished as soon as I passed the door and saw her big smile. Her clothes collection was also an apocalypse. It's one thing to see a collection on line and another to actually get to wear them. Shapes which highlight feminity, comfortable and wearable at all times. Hoping to do live demonstrations on this in future posts. Till then enjoy ancinet Greek art on stage and Eleni thanks for having me!

As mentioned on instagram this is a personal favorite!

A few words about Eleni Kyriacou collection 12 Greek Rectangles

"In classical Greek dress all clothing was made from a single rectangular piece of cloth, draped and tied in various ways. The reason for this was because the cloth was multi-fanctional. It not only served as a dress but also to sleep on (or as a blanket), cover furniture and even as a sail. This is why the rectangular shape had to be kept in-tact and was not cut to fit the body shape.

This collection seeks to explore this concept. 12 rectangles are draped and tied to create 21st century dresses based on this simple but brilliant Classical concept. I feel transformable wear is a highly topical theme....... All transformations designed are very simple, where some offer fewer configurations and others offer numerous.

I have always found the depiction of Greek dress in classical sculpture incredibly feminine and provocative. Sculptures of the time observed models in "wetted drapery" in order to emulate this utterly sensual effect where the female body meets dress and one almost merges with the other. In wetted drapery a woman almost becomes her dress. It's as though each ripple of drapery is an extension of her flesh......

The colour palette is based on colours used in ancient Greek dress: dark purple, violet, dark red, bright yellow, bright green  and grey. The exact tones and shades of each colour are chosen using artistic license."

In Athens for a Day!

As I'm growing older I realise that days go by faster and faster. I can't seem to control time like I used to and I just have to learn to live with my main priorities which are my family and job (naaaa too difficult for a creative like me). What I used to do is sleep less so I could catch up with my blogging but that is not an option any more. I need sleep so I can deal with my demanding daily programme. So sleep is the main reason of my abscense. That doesn't mean I'm quitting. No way. I LOVE blogging. I LOVE taking pictures and I LOVE writing. So quitting is absolutely not on my mind. Just have to find a way to organise things better. Any sujestions???

With that said it's time to share pictures from my latest trip to Athens. It was a full day circulating through the city, meeting up with friends, visiting the studio of Greek fashion designer Eleni Kyriacou and finally attending her show at Athens Xclusive Designers Week. Hope you enjoy!

Totally tired but totally happy!!!

My friend Eleni came with me to the show. Once again we had a great time!!! (remember the last time we where at AXDW?)

It really is funny as I recall mentioning last March at my blogpost about Marni, how I would love to attend a fashion show and sit in the front row. Since then I've been to two AXDW and even sat in the front row. So I guess blogging is a way to make your dreams come true! And now I'm dreaming again and hoping to get to meet up close and interview some serious jewelry and fashion designers. Hopefully the beginning has been made with Eleni Kyriacou and I wish to continue with these great jewelry designers below!

Ήρθε η ώρα να σας πω για την Eleni Kyriacou και να σας δείξω φωτογραφίες από τη συμμετοχή της στο Athens Xclusive Designers' Week (AXDW) παρουσιάζοντας THE AMPHIPOLIS MUSE.

Today I got out of bed in a really good mood. And why not? It's Sunday and for the next 8 days every day will be a Sunday for me since I've taken a few days off work. Have you arranged some days off work to celebrate Easter or are you saving days for summer?
With that said, I think it's about time I told you about Eleni Kyriacou and show you pictures from her participation in the Athens Xclusive Designers' Week (AXDW) presenting THE AMPHIPOLIS MUSE. As you can understand from the title the show's inspiration came from the archaeological discoveries of Amphipolis. Guest stars of the catwalk were psychologist Dr Linda Papadopoulos and Benaki Museums' conservator Eleftheria Gkoufa.

Just entered the show room. Already begun ......

Throughout the show photos from the archaeological finds of Amphipolis were displayed !

Loved this dress!!!!

Eleftheria Gkoufa was a memorable presence......

My favorite!!!!

Impressive ending!!!!

Mrs Kyriacou in a red knitted dress looks really happy !!!

The end.....

I have no experience from catwalks but this show left me only positive feelings. I saw true art on the catwalk. From the clothes to the music to the images displayed on the video wall everything was meticulous and interrelated. Magic was everywhere. I am very glad I had such an opportunity and took advantage of it. I hope this will only be the beginning!
